Bach Long Vi

Bach Long Vi is an island which is located in the Gulf of Tonkin, Hai Phong city. Island’s length is about 3km; 1.5 km in wide, covering an area 2.5 km² supernatant to 4 km² depends on the tide, between the islands sticking out like a turtle shell to 60m high. Island has an important role in the expansion of ocean waters and the demarcation of the Tonkin Gulf. Halong Culture

Halong Bay is one of Vietnamese culture cradles with three consecutive histories, from 18,000 to 3,500 years ago, which included Soi Nhu Culture, Cai Beo culture and Ha Long culture.
Soi Nhu culture (from 18,000 to 7000 years ago) distributed mainly in the area of limestone islands of Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. Besides, it also distributed in coastal caves. The typical sites: Me Cung, Thien Long, Tien Ong…

Living method of Soi Nhu culture residents was collecting shellfish, fruits... Accumulating of cultural layer consisted of mountain (Cyclophorus) and stream (Melania) and several other species of freshwater mollusks.

Cai Beo archaeological evidence is one confirmed case of the Vietnamese ancient ancestors had begun to conquer the open sea and ocean exploitation and has created a culture that special nuance.
